American Society of Civil Engineers, Outstanding Undergraduate Fulton Student Organization, 2017-18 SOAR Awardee

Congrats to American Society of Civil Engineers for earning the Outstanding Undergraduate Fulton Student Organization 2017-2018 Student Organization Awards & Recognition (SOAR) award! They were recognized at the SOAR ceremony on April 25, 2018 for their accomplishments.

As one of the team members shared, “This is my first year of serving as faculty advisor for the ASU ASCE club and I was incredibly impressed by the dedication of the officers and members, the opportunities provided by the club to members of the civil engineering community, and the impact of the club on the SSEBE school and its image.”

As one of the team members shared, “I am very proud of the way the officers and members have dedicated themselves to the organization of this event, sacrificing countless hours to promote our school and club.”

As one of the team members shared, “ASCE has shown immense and measurable improvement in the involvement of our members in the past year. We provide social functions, technical tours, field tips, professional development workshops, special interest presentations from faculty/practitioners, and so much more.”

As one of the team members shared, “The club enables all students interested in civil engineering to participate in practical engineering projects, such as building a concrete canoe or a steel bridge, and connect with the larger professional engineering community through biweekly meetings and outreach events. Additionally, it provides leadership opportunities for students to organize a variety of events and manage a significant organization with a large budget.”

As one of the team members shared, “Additionally, this year the ASU ASCE club is hosting the Pacific Southwest ASCE conference, which will be attended by 18 universities and over 1500 students. This is a visible event in the community in academia and industry, as well as the local community and can be used for recruiting both undergraduate and graduate students.”

This award earned the organization $500 in funding that will go toward organization needs.
